The MBA in PUBLIC GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT sponsored by the Vienna Chamber of Commerce and Industry is a unique programme, specifically tailored to suit the needs of mid-career civil servants and other professionals working on public governance and management issuesin Central and Eastern European countries, South-Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Russia.

WHO ARE THE TARGET GROUPS FOR THE MBA? The MBA programme at MODUL University Vienna is mainly targeted at people with professional experience who work in or with new EU and Candidate Countries. These may include:

Mid-career civil servants; Teaching staff of civil service colleges and universities; Staff of consultant firms which have a strong presence in the region; Staff of international organisations and NGOs which have programmes focussing on public governance and management issues in the region; Staff of private companies such as utilities which do a lot of partnership working with public agencies in the region. We will also admit students of Social Sciences and Law who can demonstrate a track record of internships and other practical experience in the public and non-profit sectors in the target countries.

Durchsetzungsmöglichkeiten der Absolventen

Our MBA programme is designed to enable professionals in the target countries to manage effectively innovation and change in the public and non-profit sectors and to help their organisations to link effectively with other key players in the region.

This means that the programme will be practice-oriented while, at the same time, giving you the necessary theoretical frameworks and analytical tools to help you to solve your problems better. Furthermore, it will give you access to new networks with other professionals working in the region.

Organisation des Studiums

Our MBA is designed as a full-time programme over 4 terms. While the students are expected to spend the autumn, spring and summer terms on the Vienna campus (11 months altogether), students can be more flexible while writing their Masters thesis during the 4th term.

As an alternative for professionals who have difficulties in being out of office for a long period, the MBA programme at MODUL University Vienna also offers the possibility of spreading studies on a part-time basis over a longer period.

MODUL University Vienna offers a comprehensive curriculum which consists of about 15–20 contact hours a week.

Scholarships:

For participants from Central and Eastern European countries and South-Eastern Europe: EUR 12,000 – EUR 16,000

MODUL University Vienna wants to attract the very best candidates to this programme but we are also aware of the financial conditions of the public sector in various countries in the region.

Therefore, MODUL University Vienna will provide a high number of scholarships to enable talented professionals to take part in our MBA programme.

In addition to this there will be one place free of any fee to be awarded to the best applicant.

The criteria which will be used in selecting the students to whom scholarships will be awarded include:

Proof that the student meets the general admission requirements

A statement from the student setting out the likely impact of the MBA programme on the student’s career (about 1–2 pages)

A testimonial from one public sector official OR one academic who can comment on the student’s potential as a future leader in the public sector of their country

A brief case study about a good public management or governance practice in one of the target countries of the MBA programme (about 5 pages)

Unterkunft, Kost und Studentenfreizeit

MODUL University Vienna has signed a contract with a campus of student residences that offers accommodation at reasonable rates.

A single room (9m2) in a unit of 2 single rooms with shared bathroom (shower and WC) and anteroom (cupboards, sink, refrigerator) is available at the rate of € 250 per month.

There are several shared cooking facilities on each floor and washing machines and tumblers in each building. The latter can be used for a small fee. The campus also provides fitness rooms, a sauna and solarium and several rooms for parties, performances, games, … which can be rented or used for a small fee.

Aufnahmeprüfung

No entrance exam.

Eligibility for Admission:

Completed Bachelor’s degree in Social, Economic Sciences or Law or any other university degree plus a minimum of two years of professional experience.

Alternatively, proof of college/university eligibility plus five years of professional experience.

All candidates who do not speak English as their first language should provide proof of proficiency of the English language. Please note that proof of a TOEFL score of at least 230 CBT (computer based) or 570 PBT (paper based) or a IELTS score of at least Band 6,5 or a Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (BEC Higher – Grade A) is required for admission.

Two letters of recommendation

All applicants who meet the requirements above will be invited to an interview. Depending on the preference of the candidate, he/she may come to Vienna to a personal interview or be interviewed through a video-conference. The candidate will be informed about the result one week after the interview.
