Mathematics - master degree, master Study

Mathematics is the scientific discipline which enables to its graduates to work over the world; the language of mathematics is international and does not know borders. Due to the universality of a mathematical thinking, the graduates of the study are very well prepared for a flexible adaptation to newly arising needs of a social intellectual activity. The graduate of the study program Mathematics understands theories, methods and procedures very deeply. He has a wide outlook in mathematical spheres, not only in discrete but also in continuous mathematics. The graduate can assert himself as a university teacher or a researcher. The most of the students are supposed to continue in their study and to reach the degree PhD. The graduate is able to join and to give into new context the knowledge from different branches of mathematics and he can solve problems with creativity and invention.

The transnational character of mathematics gives students graduating in this subject world-wide career prospects. Thanks to the universality of the acquired mathematical thinking they are well suited to flexibly adapt to the new intellectual demands arising in the society. It is expected that the majority of students will wish to continue their studies in a doctoral programme.

Students receive accommodation according to regulations passed by the University Administration of P.J. šafárik University in Košice.

Applicant is accepted into the maste’s programme without an entrance exam, if the master programme is a acontinuation of the bachelor study programme in the same subject, and if the applicant passed a state examination with the required result equivalent to the state examinations of the bachelor study programme of the Faculty of Natural Sciences at UPJŠ. The standard study-period of the master study programme in that case is two years. If the applicants do not meet the criteria listed above, they can be accepted into the master’s programme on the basis of the results of an entrance exam. In that case, the standard study-period is two or three years. The standard study-period is decided on the basis of the results of the entrance exam and the relevance of the bachelor programme the applicant graduated in.

Foreign students are accepted on the basis of a contract. There is no tuition fee for study in English.
